MSLSA, the NDWM, Shillong organized a Legal Awareness Programme on occasion of Pan India

Shillong, Oct 07: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM), Shillong has organized a Legal Awareness Programme on occasion of Pan India Awareness and  Outreach Programme as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and as part of World Day for Decent Work for the domestic workers on 5th October, 2021 at Lapalang, Shillong.

The programme was attended by the domestic workers of Lapalang localities and its adjoining areas. The resource persons for the legal awareness included Shri N A Khan, MHJS, District and Sessions Judge and Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills.

Smti. M Borgohain, Legal Aid Counsel and Smti. P Roy, Legal Aid Counsel, East Khasi Hills. The topics covered during the programme were Free Legal Aid, Article 21, Article 39A, Decent Work, Domestic violence, Labour laws, victim compensation and Right to Education.

After the technical sessions, dry rations were distributed to all the participants by the National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM), Shillong along with the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority.

The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Lamjingshai Manbha Foundation & Shamakami, Shillong has organized a Legal Awareness Programme on Transgender and their Legal Rights on occasion of Pan India Awareness & Outreach Programme as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on 6th October, 2021 at Shillong Law College, Shillong.

The programme started with a welcome and keynote address from Shri TTM Sangma, OSD, Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority who stressed upon the rights of transgender guaranteed under the Constitution of India, the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 and rulings of the Hon’ble Supreme Court & Hon’ble Delhi High Court regarding rights of transgender persons and the LGBTQIA community.

Other resource person was Smti. R Subba, Founding Member, Shamakami who spoke about the Rights of Transgender, issues faced and stigma related to being associated with LGBTQIA community. Thereafter there was a session on sharing of experience by K Tron, community leader on living in the society, discrimination and problems faced as a person of the third gender/community.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks from Smti. S Phanwar, Programme Manager, Lamjingshai Manbha Foundation. After the technical sessions, dry rations were distributed to all the participants by the National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM), Shillong along with the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority.
