NABARD will not charge interest on agriculture loan for six month from farmers: Banteidor

Shillong, August 05: Farmers being one of the worst-hit sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Meghalaya.

Mr Banteidor Lyngdoh minister incharge the department of agriculture today held a meeting with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to discuss the plight of the farmers in paying loans due to the banks.

Talking to the media after the meeting agriculture minister said that the meeting was a fruitful one and NABARD had shown cooperation concerning the plight of the farmers in the state.

In the meeting NABARD have agreed that from March till August 2020 they will not charged interest from the farmers and opportunity will be given to them to pay the loan.

This will be a relief for the farmers since due to the pandemic farmers are not able to sell their goods or make much, said Mr Lyngdoh.

The banks have also agreed to give time to the farmers to pay the loans due to the bank added Lyngdoh.
