NEHU hosted the 3rd International Conference on Bioinformatics 2020, in Shillong

Shillong, Dec 07: Bioclues, India’s largest bioinformatics society and an affiliate of International Society for Computational Biology and Asia Pacific Bioinformatics network has organized its 3rd International Conference on Bioinformatics 2020 (INBIX 2020) and virtually hosted it at Bioinformatics Centre, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya during December 4-5, 2020.

Prof. S.R. Joshi and Dr. Devendra K Biswal were conveners from NEHU. Northeast India is the cultural cradle of biodiversity and represents the transitional zone between the Indian, Indo-Malayan and Indo-Chinese biogeographic regions. On the one hand we witness traditional tribal herbal drugs with immense pharmacognosy properties for treating life threatening diseases, but on the other hand there are debilitating emerging infectious foodborne trematodiases that require immediate disease surveillance and control strategy.

To address these issues, this year’s INBIX 2020 theme was “Recent advances in computational biology for codifying Biodiversity into one health approach: Biodiversity, Climate change, one health and Zoonotic diseases”. Eminent speakers from India and abroad delivered keynote and invited talks. Participants IITs, JNU, BHU, BITs, NITs graced the occasion.

The conference included Bioinformatics projects by School Children, 3 Keynotes, 8 invited talks and selected oral presentations besides poster stubs, video abstracts, ideation challenges and Bioclues Innovation research and Development (BIRD) Awards were given to the outstanding candidates working in the field of computational biology.
