NPP National president concluded his election campaign at  Serchhip constituency , Mizoram

Shillong, Nov 23: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National President of NPP Mr Conrad K. Sangma end his campaign in poll bound Mizoram today with an election rally addressed at Serchhip Constituency, where he campaigned for Mr Kapliana Pachuau, a journalist turned politician.

Mr Pachuau is pitted against incumbent Chief Minister and Congress candidate Lal Thanhawla in the prestigious Serchhip constituency, which has remained a Congress stronghold for over two decade.

Pachuau is a green horn in politics and he is known for his illustrious career in journalism. In all rallies of the NPP, the popular singers were roped in to draw mass support and strike a cord as music connects with the people in this beautiful hill state.

Addressing the rally, Conrad Sangma said that NPP has made its foray in Mizoram with a clear intention to work for the people of the State. “I am not here to make fun of anybody or any candidate of any political party. We as a party believe in positive politics and this is the reason that NPP is trying to create awareness as to what NPP stands for as we embark on our mission for Mizoram,” he said.

He told the gathering that NPP has a road map to promote the youth energy of the people of North East. “The region is blessed with talents in the field of sports, music and culture. In Meghalaya, we have come up with innovative programmes to promote sports and music and similar intervention is envisioned for Mizoram as well,” he added.

Terming that through local business development the economy of a hill state like Mizoram will get to see a fillip, he said, “NPP is a party that believes that through local business the economy of Mizoram will grow. When we took over the government in Meghalaya we accorded priority for local business venture and have started a special programme to promote entrepreneurship with setting up of an institute.”

He said that North East has rich resources and a proper policy was required to tap the opportunity. “We are channelizing our resources to its best for the maximum advantage. Given an opportunity to be part of the government in Mizoram we will push for a transformative reform by pitching for innovative programmes to create better environment and culture with optimum utilisation of our resources for the common benefit of our people,” he said.

Urging the people to join and support NPP, he said, “One day we will become the largest party in the entire Northeast that would stand for its own people. I want to urge the people of Mizoram to join us in our struggle and fight to ensure that our people are protected. We shall fight together to ensure our rights.”
