Office of the SRES, organized a state level workshop on the Good Governance Initiative

Shillong, January 24: The office of the State Rural Employment Society (SRES), the Nodal Agency for implementation of MGNREGA organized a state level workshop on the Good Governance Initiative in Administration of Indicative Framework and Sharing of Best Practices on the 23rd January, 2018 at Yojana Bhavan Auditorium, Main Secretariat Building, Shillong. The workshop was attended by District Programme Managers and Additional Programme Officers across the State.

The main objective of the programme is to inculcate a sense of responsibility and a sense of ownership not only on the assets but also on bringing about transparency in the implementation of MGNREGA. Through a decade long journey, a lot of modifications and alterations have been brought about for the smooth implementation of the programme. The assets created have been geo-tagged, monitoring process has been put in place and payment of wages as much as practicable has been directly made to the beneficiaries.

Achieving good Governance is an intricate process that demands the commitment and dedication of all the personnel involved at various levels of implementation. With this objective, the processes of maintenance of various records at the Village Employment Councils (VECs) have been reviewed. The four major areas as part of the Good Governance Initiatives that require constant supervision and guidance are maintenance and updation of seven (7) registers, Job Cards, Work File/Case records and Citizen Information Board.

The workshop also deliberated on the maintenance of the T+8 register which was introduced as an additional record to be maintained and monitored at the Block level. This process is expected to curb the delay in payment of wages to the MGNREGA beneficiaries.
