One day motivational programme held for cooperative societies atf kalaichar border haat

Ampati, April 15:  A one day motivational programme for cooperative societies was held on Saturday at the Zizak C&RD Block Multi Facility Centre in South West Garo Hills. The programme organized by the Cooperation department saw participation of close to 200 members of fifty plus cooperative societies of the region.

Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest Zizak C&RD Block Development Officer S Ch Sangma urged the participants to be attentive during the session so as to be able to retain whatever information is shared by the concerned department’s officers.

Speaking on livelihood generation opportunities Sangma stated that at present the Kalaichar Border Haat only catered to the economic needs of the people living under five kilometers radius. The BDO said that the border haat would be upgraded in the future to enable people living outside the five kilometer radius to buy and sell in the business centre. Sangma also urged civil societies to include equal numbers of female members into their fold so that there is no disparity in terms of guaranteeing equal opportunities to everyone.

The government is dedicated in providing equal opportunities to every one Sangma stated and added that Kalaichar market would be upgraded into a marketing hub to enable people to sell and buy local produce and also export them to neighboring Bangladesh through the border haat.

Earlier, Assistant Registrat, Cooperation department, West Garo Hills, A G A Sangma spoke on the significance of cooperative societies and their capability to uplift the socio economic conditions of the people of the region. Speaking on the need to work together he stated that with unity every enterprise will become successful.
