Mairang, August 24: The PHE Minister, Mr Samlin Malngiang today inaugurated the 2nd edition of the Football Knock Out Tournament 2019 in Kynshi Bangla Playground, West Khasi Hills District organised by the Kynshi Bangla Social and Cultural Sports Club.
Addressing the gathering, the PHE Minister said that all kinds of sports and football in particular should be encouraged as it helps the people and the youth in particular to stay healthy and to avoid modern day ailments such as diabetes and Hypertension.
Mr Malngiang also said that sporting activities are beneficial not only for the players but also for the spectators as it provides a source of entertainment and distraction from the stresses and storms of daily life.
The tournament was kicked off with a match between Assam Regiment Football Club and Sawmer Football Club, in which, Assam Regiment Football Club emerged victorious scoring 3 goals against 2 scored by Sawmer Football Club. Altogether 16 football teams from all over the State are participating in the tournament vying for the prize money of Rupees Three Lakhs.
Also present in the function are Shri HB Nongsiej, MLA Mawthadraishan Constituency, Shri A Nongbri, SDO (C) Mairang Civil Sub – Division, Shri M Diengdoh, EAC Mairang Civil Sub – Division, Shri L Dhar, Executive Engineer, PHE Mairang Civil Sub – Division and Shri A Syiemlieh, Sordar Kynshi Bangla who also chaired the programme among others. Earlier in the day, the Minister also distributed prizes to the local youths in recognition of their achievements in academics and other activities.
