Shillong, October 06: The Police today arrested Mr Jacky S Marak 21 years of Athiabari from West Khasi Hills and Mr Sarmanton D Sangma of Dholaigaon from East Khasi Hills District from Lachumiere who were working as a Cook in Step-In restaurant, Lachumiere, Shillong for committing the murder.
The police said that the motive of the murder was to commit robbery. They robbed her mobile and cash of about Rs. 2,000/-. The mobile phone of the deceased (Late) Smti. Anjana Sinha has been recovered and the knife used to commit the murder has been recovered from his erstwhile work place that is at Golden Gate Restaurant, Nongmynsong, Shillong.
The Police alleged that Mr Sarmaston D. Marak is also involved in several theft including one in his erstwhile workplace Golden Gate restaurant. He will be produced before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shillong tomorrow and Police remand will be prayed for to complete the investigation for which early submission of chargesheet will be made.
To recall that On 3rd September 2017 between 1:00Am-1:30Am, Smti. Anjana Sinha 36 years of Macabbe Road, Polo who is a street food vendor at Khyndailad, Police Bazar, Shillong for the past 12 or 13 years went to keep her cooking table near the Power house on the rear road leading to Lady Keane College, Shillong while her husband Mr Suresh Sinha who was not well waited for her at Khyndailad.
After 30 minutes of her not returning, he went looking for her, near the Power house where her table was kept, he found her shawl and slipper on the ground. On further searching for her he found the body of his wife 30-40 feet on the ground close to the rear gate leading to Lady Keane College.
Her throat was found slit open with several cut injuries on her body. She was immediately rushed to Civil Hospital, Shillong by 108 Ambulance but was declared brought dead. An FIR was submitted by her husband Shri. Suresh Sinha on 3rd September 2017 at Sadar Police Station, Shillong. A case vide Sadar P.S. C/No. 210(09)17 u/s 302 IPC was registered. The FSL team, Shillong also visited the Place of Occurrence to gather clues.
The case was treated as a Special Report (S.R) case and was closely supervised. The investigation was assisted by the Special Cell, East Khasi Hills, Shillong as there was no eye witness or clue to the case After a month’s investigation, yesterday i.e. 05thOct. 2017 Shri. Jacky S. Marak, 21yrs of Athiabari, West Khasi Hills was picked up and arrested. On his interrogation one Shri. Sarmaston D. Sangma, 22yrs of Dholaigaon under Dangar Out Post, Mawsynram, who is presently a cook in Step-In restaurant, Lachumiere, Shillong was arrested today from Lachumiere, Shillong for committing the murder, police said in the press statement today.
