Shillong, Sept 26: In a bid to inculcate the feeling of patriotism and love for one’s nation among the youth of the state, the portraits of the unsung heroes of the state of Meghalaya who gave their lives for the freedom of the nation were unveiled today by Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, the Vice-Chancellor of NEHU in presence of the teachers, non-teaching staff and the students of the University.

The Vice-Chancellor in his speech said that “the North-Eastern states have contributed a lot for the freedom of this great nation and the rest of India and the world needs to know about it. When we are in the other parts of the country, people rarely speak about the freedom fighters from the north-eastern region, let alone the state of Meghalaya.

Glorification of the contribution of the freedom fighters from this part of the country is necessary and it’s about time that we inculcate the feeling of patriotism among the youths of this nation and help them in spreading the knowledge and information of the freedom fighters from this state.”

The Vice-Chancellor also mentioned that the freedom fighters of Meghalaya namely U Tirot Sing Syiem, Pa Togan Sangma and U Kiang Nangbah have devoted and sacrificed their lives for the people of Meghalaya. It is in this spirit that the University has taken the initiative of making the effort of glorification of our freedom fighters.
