Representation was submitted by Mr Madal was refer to the Election Commission of India

Shillong, November 20: It is for the general information that a representation was submitted by Shri Madal Sumer of Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District, under Article 192 (1) of the Constitution of India to the Governor of Meghalaya on 13.11.2017. In that representation, Shri Sumer sought the disqualification of 17 Members of the State Legislative Assembly on certain grounds.

The same was brought to the attention of the Governor of Meghalaya on 16.11.2017 and a decision was made by him to seek the opinion of the Election Commission of India on the same date. Based on the decision of the Governor, the matter was referred to the Election Commission of India, as required under the Article 192 (2) of the Constitution of India on the same date on 16.11.2017.

This is to inform all concerned that the matter is not pending with the office of the Governor of Meghalaya, as reported by a section of Press. This was informed by the Deputy Secretary to the Governor of Meghalaya.
