Shillong, May 21: The Shillong Lajong U-18s have advanced to the semifinals of the U-18 Youth League after defeating FC Goa by 2-1 in today’s last group D match at the JN Stadium Shillong.
Donboklang Lyngdoh scored the first goal from inside the box after an impressive quick pass combination play with Samuel Kynshi in the 22nd minute.
In the 61st minute, Samuel Kynshi won the ball on the wing after great persistence and passed the ball to the centre of the box for Parvaj to shoot. Parvaj’s shot had power but went straight to the keeper and made a second attempt but the keeper denied him again. The ball then bounced back towards Samuel Kynshi who made no mistake in slotting the ball towards the goal giving Lajong the two goal lead.
FC Goa returned with one goal in the 66th minute courtesy a penalty taken by Lalawmpuia. The match ended 2-1 in favour of Lajong juniors.
Shillong Lajong Juniors finished at the top of the Group D table with 9 points from 3 games and remain undefeated in the U-18 Youth League tournament. They will play the semifinals against East Bengal on Thursday at 7.00 PM in JN Stadium.
