Smoking in public place is strictly prohibited offender will be fine of Rs.200

Shillong, July 07: The office of the Superintendent of Police, West Jaintia Hills in a Press Release issued has informed  that a fine of  Rs. 200/- will be enforce if found smoking in public places.

As per section 4 of the Act Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA) smoking in public places is prohibited and violators shall be punishable with fine upto two hundred rupees (Rs 200/-)

Furthermore, it is stated that section 6(a) Prohibits the sale of Cigarettes and other tobacco products to a person below the age of eighteen years in that particular area and as per Section 6(b) There should be no sale of tobacco within 100 yards (300 feet) of any educational institutions.

The Superintendent of Police hence informed that any violator will be liable for a fine and punished as per the provision of the law.
