Sports can bring change in society as youth distant themselves from anti social elements

Shillong, March 24: Shri Banteidor Lyngdoh, Sports & Youth Affairs Minister, in the presence of Shri A L Hek, Health and Family Welfare Minister and local MLA, today laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Hall at Mawpat Community Compound, Shillong.

The indoor sports hall has been sanctioned at an amount of Rs 3.42 crores and is expected to be completed by 2022 to coincide with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Mawpat Sports & Cultural Club.

During his address, Shri Banteidor Lyngdoh said that the inauguration of the Indoor sports hall is the realization of a long awaited dream of the people. He stated that Sports in Meghalaya have come a long way and the government is committed to bring in more infrastructures for the development of sports in various disciplines.

Shri Lyngdoh stated that Sports can bring about a visible change in society as youth involved in sports tend to distant themselves from anti social elements, thus bringing an all round development to the community at large.

He also added that such infrastructures are needed for the state to be able to produce quality sportspersons who would bring laurels to the state and the country as a whole.

Shri A L Hek exhorted the people to work together with the sports department which will go a long way in building the capacity of the youth. He also encouraged the youth of the village to come forward to showcase their talents in the field of sports.
