“Sur U Paidbah Hynniewtrep” written to Conrad, majority of the farmers availed Bank loans

Shillong, May 28: The WhatsApp  group known as “Sur U Paidbah Hynniewtrep” has written to the Meghalaya Chief Minister Mr Conrad K Sangma apprise him of the problems face by the public during this COVID-19 pandemic. This is the third letter as a groupd has sent to the Chief Minister.

In the Letter  “Sur U Paidbah Hynniewtrep” as the groups has taken up the issue on the incident at Mawryngkneng on the 25th May 2020 where in it was reported that a person under CQC was denied medical attendance by the concern authority.

However, the Sordar of Mawryngkneng after initiating communication with DHMO resolved the matter and the patient was transferred to Civil Hospital by 108. They urged that this incident be taken into consideration for ensuring that people are not denied medical attendance, and that medical teams are provided for necessary equipment’s/PPE etc so as to facilitate their service to the people.

That, during this lockdown period, farmers are pushed to the edge, wherein they had to bear the great loss due to mismatch in the days allowed for wholesale (as notified by the Government) and right days to harvest the vegetation i.e. the closure of every Monday and Tuesday.

It has to be noted that majority of the farmers availed Bank loans for their cultivation. It is compulsory for the farmers to harvest their crops every single day during this peak season and take their produce straight to the markets for sale.

As notified by the Government, the authorized public vehicles (taxi) are allowed to ferry only three persons. It may be mentioned that, limiting the number of passengers and at the same rate per passengers will affect the local taxi drivers economically. Therefore, it may be suggested that reasonable increase in the fares of passengers be considered, so that welfare of our drivers are also taken care of.

The Government by limiting the number of city buses to ferry the Government Employees back home, has itself violated the social distancing protocol, as the Government Employees have to rush to get inside the bus and at the same time the seating capacity as prescribed is being violated openly. The letter was sign by Mr HS Shylla as Chairman and Egenstar Kurkalang as secretary.
