Taking the responsibility to preserve the environment BSF planted 15000 saplings of tress

Shillong, June 06: As the country continue to battle the pandemic of coronavirus, the Border Security Force marked “World Environment Day” 2020 at its Headquarter Umpling and other various locations including the border areas taking all precautionary measures to contain the spread of coronavirus by organizing a massive plantation drive.

Taking the responsibility to protect and preserve the environment and promoting a greener ecosystem along with providing a pollution-free atmosphere to the residents inside the campuses, massive plantation drive was organized within its campuses and at various Border out posts aimed at campaigning for green culture.

The BSF has planted more than 15,000 saplings of various species and large size were planted during the plantation drive which includes fruiting, flowering and medicinal plants. The event was organized under the overall supervision of Shri Kuldeep Saini, Inspector General, BSF, Meghalaya Frontier.

It is known that plantation is the most efficient way to a cumulative protection of environment. Tree plantation drive combats many environmental issues like deforestation, erosion of soil, desertification in semi arid area, global warming and hence enhancing the beauty and balance of the environment.

Mr  U K Nayal, DIG/PRO BSF Meghalaya Frontier stated that this year more plants with medicinal values were planted during the drive. He also appreciated the assistance of Forest department of Meghalaya state for providing sufficient saplings to successfully carry out such massive plantation drive.
