The 3rd tri Teri Services Armed Forces Veterans’ day was celebrated at 58 GTC, Shillong

Shillong, Jan 14: The 3rd Tri Services Armed Forces Veterans’ Day was celebrated at 58 Gorkha Training Centre, Happy Valley, Shillong under the aegis of HQ 101 Area on 14 January 2019. The function was attended by around 400 Veterans and Veer Naris hailing from Meghalaya. It is an annual Tri-services event with the basic objective of honouring our Veterans and Widows and to resolve any issues related to their pension and health care.

Veterans’ Day commemorates the day on which the first Field Marshall General KM Cariappa retired from service. For the first time the Indian Armed Forces celebrated the Veteran’s Day on 14th January 2015.

The event at Shillong commenced with wreath laying Ceremony at 58 Gorkha Training Centre War Memorial. In addition to other dignitaries, wreaths were laid by parents of Late Capt Clifford Nongrum, Maha Vir Chakra and Late Major David Manlun, Kirti Chakra. Major General PK Saini, Chief of Staff, HQ 101 Area along with Commandants 58 Gorkha Training Centre and Assam Regimental Centre also laid wreaths to honour the sacrifice of the martyrs.

A number of stalls were put up by welfare agencies of the Army alongwith medical camp with attending specialists to provide free medical check-up and medicines. An entertainment programme further added gaiety to the celebrations.
