The activities of GNLA militant in Garo Hills has been firmly checked: Prestone

Shillong, April 10: The Meghalaya Minister, Mr. Prestone Tynsong today told the state Assembly that the state Government has been able to firmly deal with the activities of the militant organization belonging to Garo National Liberation Army of Garo Hills region in Meghalaya.

Replying on behalf of Chief Minister, Mr. Conrad K. Sangma to the question raised by Winnerson D. Dangma of the Opposition Congress who wanted to know, whether the GNLA is still active or not, Mr Tynsong said the state police are doing a commendable job to contain the criminal activities not only in the Garo Hills Region, but in the entire state.

He also informed the House that the GNLA has been firmly checked and because of this, 8 GNLA cadres recently surrendered before the state Home Minister, Mr. James K. Sangma. Mr. Tyngson said, he was unable to inform the member of the House on the existing number of GNLA cadres, but he was able to confirm that the senior members of the militant organization are no longer active in the state.

In another query asked by Mr Syntar Klas Sunn, Meghalaya Health and Family Minister, Mr. Alexander Laloo Hek told the state Assembly that the staff of Pasteur Institute in Shillong like the electricians, boiler, attendants, staff in the anti-rabies section and the staff in the Blood Bank are not eligible for Special Pay.
