The AICSU to hold a peaceful sit-in-protest against racial discrimination in Mizoram

New Delhi, August 05: The All India Chakma Students’ Union (AICSU), the apex body of Chakma students in India, is going to hold a peaceful sit-in-protest against the racial discrimination against Chakma minorities in Mizoram, the latest example being cancellation of MBBS seats after allotment made to four Chakma students who cleared the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET)-2017.

The four Chakma students secured rank 4, 9, 17 and 23 in Mizoram NEET ranking and have been allotted MBBS seats during counselling on 20th July 2017 but cancelled within hours due to pressure from the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (Mizo Students Association) who want that medical seats should be allotted to Mizo students only.

The cancellation of the MBBS seats of the four Chakma students and discrimination against the Chakmas by the Mizoram government was raised during the ongoing Parliament session by Shri Basawaraj Patil, Hon’ble MP, Rajya Sabha, on 31st July 2017
