The AYWO complaint to Mr Conrad on the hike of Bus- Sumo fare from Shillong to Tura

Tura, Nov 29: The A,chick Youth Welfare organization today has submitted the memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills District on the recent hike of  Bus and Sumo fare from Shillong to Tura and from Tura to Shillong.

In the memorandum the AYWO mention that the Bus fare from Shillong to Tura is Rs.350/- but now it has increase to Rs.500/- and the Sumo fare from Rs.450/- to Rs. 600/-. This increase the fare has created hardship particularly students community.

In the memorandum, the AYWO also suggested to the Chief Minister Mr Cornad Sangma that the Government should give concession to student when they travel by producing their student Identity Card while travelling from Shillong to Tura and Tura to Shillong.

The Deputy Commissioner in the interaction with the AYWO today assure them that the bus fare will reduce within five days and will be charge as per government norms all over GaroHills.

The AYWO pointed out that as per the government norms Commercial Bus and Sumo Operators can charge Rs 1.05 per km but in contrast to the provided norms, they are charging blatantly according to their whims and fancies and imposing Rs 1.90/- Per km per person which is illegal, uncalled for and insensitive on their part which needs to be rectified and reprimanded for.

The norms also state that 15 percent conscesion will be given to the students and Person with Disabilities (PWDs). This needs to be followed by all the Bus and Sumo associations while dealing with the mentioned groups and AYWO will make sure that the mandated law is executed in letter and Spirit.

The Deputy Commissioner and the District Transport Officer assured the delegation of AYWO led by its Chief Organising Secretary, that they will convene a meeting with all statkeholders and will surely reduce the fare within 5 days.
