Shillong, December 10: The AYWO observed and genuinely feels that India is Democratic and Secular Republican Nation and no one is entitled to imposed upon anybody and in anywhere to use any specific language and the Principal of Nursing School at NEGRIHMS is no exception and everybody has every right to choose its own convenient language to speak wherever and whenever he or she deems fit to do so. Therefore, the act of notifying the above said order itself is in contravention with the very idea of Democratic set up and Secular Establishment.
The nomenclature itself states that NEIGRIHMS is North Eastern Regional Institute and it is unwise to stressed on the Khasi language as the First language and the other North Eastern Language as the Second language even in the hostel too. There is many non Khasi Hostellers including our Garo brethren who took admission into the hostel and pursuing their course in the institute. So therefore, it is unfair and unjust for the Non Khasi hostellers to be restricted to converse on their own language.
The organization said that, it is unjustifiable to notify the said order in strict sense that the hostellers will be fined on the denial of the said order. Is the administration is trying to defy the conventional rights of Garo people by infringing upon our rights to speak our own Garo language in our own state? This is unprofessional and unbecoming on the part of administration of Nursing School in the said institute to impose upon its brethren to deprive us of our birthright since We the Garos or A’chik is also the indigenous tribe of Meghalaya so the Khasi brothers and sisters do.
The AYWO and general public of Garo Hills in general humbly urged upon the concerned authorities not to divide us on the line of language and refrain from fuming the communal color by notifying this insensitive order in our reputed Institute i.e., NEIGRIHMS.
The AYWO question the claim of the Principal that the main objective of the said circular is to improve the communication between the students and the patients. Is the Principal of the Nursing School is trying to justify the said order to us that the patients admitted in NEIGRIHMS were only the Khasis? What about the Garo patient who are admitted in the said institute? Is the Principal will once again resort to the same tactic and notify the Nursing Students to learnt Garo and imposed a fine upon them who does not know to speak Garo? Simultaneously, what if other North Easterners come to NEIGRHIMS and admit their loved and dear ones? Therefore the logic behind the said order is nothing sort of mindless act and tends to infused among the general masses the complacency of the authorities.
The AYWO on behalf of all the concerned Citizens among the Garos wish to convey our serious apprehension towards the matter and seriously urged upon the Concerned authorities to revoke the said order for the better interest of our people and the state of Meghalaya as a whole and reassure the outsiders that We the Meghalayans is not communal in Nature.
And the undersigned on behalf of all the Office Bearers’ of AYWO urged upon and request our Civil Society counterparts in Khasi Hills viz. KSU, FKJGP and HNYF to do the needful towards the matter and addressed the issue at the earliest keeping in mind the larger interest of our state.
