The biannually conference at the IG level BSF-BGB is underway in Shillong

Additional Director General Mr M Zahid Hasan wellcome by the Indian counterpart at Dawki.Shillong, July 12: A Bangladesh, delegation comprising of 23 members led by ­­­­­­­­M Zahid Hasan, ndc, psc, Additional Director General, Region Commander, North East Region, Sarail, Bangladesh, reached Shillong for a coordination conference between Inspectors General, BSF and Region Commanders, BGB. The Bangladesh delegation crossed over ICP Dawki on Wednesday morning and further moved to Shilong.

The conference is held biannually between the two border guarding forces to discuss the issues related to maintain peace and tranquility along the border. The last such conference was held at Sylhet, Bangladesh during Nov’ 2016.

In the ongoing conference, at HQrs BSF Meghalaya Frontier, Umpling, 23 delegates of the Bangladesh led by  Region Commander, North East Region, Sarail, Bangladesh, accompanied by Region Commander, South-East Region, Chittagong, Sector commanders of Sreemongal, Khagrachari, Guimara, Rangamati, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Bandarban and Comilla,  members from the Ministry of Home Affairs and External Affairs, Joint River Commission and Directorate of Narcotic Control.

Indian delegates being led by Shri U C Sarangi, IPS , Inspector General BSF, Tripura accompanied by the Inspectors General of Meghalaya and M&C Frontiers as well as associated by Staff Officers from Special DG (Eastern Command), Kolkata and New Delhi, Dy. Inspectors General of Meghalaya, M&C and Tripura Frontiers. Representatives of Narcotics Control Bureau and Central Water Commission also are the participants.

The Bangladesh delegation was extended very warm welcome at Dawki and further at Officer’s Institute Mawpat and Umpling where it has been accommodated.

During the conference, Border Security Force mainly focused on the issues like activities of Indian Insurgent in Bangladesh, smuggling of cattle, FICN & Gold, other trans- border crimes, construction of single row fencing, developmental works etc.

Similarly, the Border Guard Bangladesh emphasized on the issues of  Firing, killing and injuring of unarmed Bangladeshi nationals by Indian nationals, apprehension of Bangladeshi national, Illegal trespassing by Indian nationals into Bangladesh territory, Smuggling of various types of drugs and narcotics, etc.

Both the border guarding forces analyzed all forms of trans-border crime patterns and came forward to work-out the ways out to keep the International border crime free. Both the forces also stressed upon the need of uplifting the border population residing on either side of the border. Though Bangladesh delegation denied any form of presence of Indian Insurgent Groups in Bangladesh but assured to take action against them if any such element found. Both the forces also agreed  to render co-operation in sharing real time intelligence regarding presence and trans-border movement of the Indian insurgents.
