The BSF has started a ‘Border Cup’ football tournament in Meghalaya

Shillong, November 10: In order to spot the talent from the villages along the International border, the Sentinels of Border has started a ‘Border Cup’ football tournament in Meghalaya.

It will be organized by various BSF Battalions deployed at border to form a team from their areas after conducting matches between teams from nearby villages. It will be first phase of this border cup where one team each from areas of BSF battalions will be selected to compete among each other to make three teams from BSF Sectors i.e Shillong, Jowai and Tura.

Later these teams will compete for “Border Cup”. To identify the new talent and promote the most popular game on the border also, the largest border guarding force i.e Border Security Force has taken this initiative. In this sequence on 09th November  a football tournament among bordering villages organized by Meghalaya Frontier under supervision of 30 Bn BSF. A match played in between village Lyngkhat and Nayabazar at Lyngkhat playground. Villagers of  Lyngkhat won by 3-0 goals. Final match scheduled on 15th Nov, 2017 at Dawk.

Earlier also, on 07th Nov’ 2017, 20 Bn BSF under Sector Tura organized matches under Civic Action Programme at football ground near Gasuapara High School. United Youth Club of village- Dumnikura won the final match.During the tournament, 04 teams (Dabram, Nilwagiri, Dumnikura and Upper Gasuapara, Distt-South Garo Hills) of bordering villages participated. Locals of surrounding villages witnessed the said match in huge number.

Such public outreach programmes are being conducted to better understanding between the BSF and local populace. It has always been the endeavour of Border Security Force to help the border population. Following the trend, this year also BSF will organize more Civic Action Programmes for the needy and under privileged border population residing in far-flung areas along the India–Bangladesh border to bring the feeling of mutual trust among the border population and the force personnel which will assist in smooth management of border said Sh.
