Shillong, August 29: The disturbing trend of cattle smuggling to Bangladesh continues by the notorious cattle smuggler of Lyngkhat, East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya just ahead of `Eid-ul-Azha’ when the prices/demand of bovine animals have gone up(probably on peak). The BSF Intelligence Branch has been keeping effective surveillance and receiving tips about movement of these criminals at the international border.
The BSF troops deployed at Lyngkhat, East Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya foiled the forced attempt of smugglers and prevented 54 cattle worth more than 10.5 lacs being smuggled to Bangladesh. The Lyngkhat/Nayabazar area, is the most cattle smuggling prone area, where such attempts have been obstructed and foiled many a times by the alert/cautious BSF troops deployed there.
On intervening night of 28-29th Aug’2017, the BSF troops deployed at Nayabazar, East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya launched Spl. operation and prevented 20 nos cattle being smuggled to Bangladesh taking advantage of darkness and bad weather condition through unfenced gaps. BSF has been now operating in close coordination with police for foiling such bids of cattle smuggling thorough the bordering area. To check such activities joint operations will be launched specially up to `Eid-ul-Azha’ said Sh. U K Nayal, DIG/PRO BSF.
Similarly, in another incident, the BSF troops deployed at Tuka, also in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya seized 11 cattle worth more than 4 Lacs while being smuggled to Bangladesh. The special operation party of BSF laid a trap while some smugglers along with cattle were proceeding towards Bangladesh through a thickly vegetated area. The BSF troops rushed towards the suspected area before the smugglers could succeed in their nefarious activity, cordoned off the area and recovered a considerable numbers of cattle. Thus making overall number of cattle seizure to 85.
