Shillong, March 01: The Border Security force in order to prevent the influx through illegal trafficking and criminals activities as well as smuggling of smuggling of contraband items, has been changing its strategy along the International Boundary by means of effective check and vigil the border.
The BSF received inputs on what is believed to be involvement of Bangladeshis in trans-border crossing. Responding to the inputs, special ops was launched by Border Security Force deployed at Kaithakona, South West Khasi hills on 25th Feb’ 2019 and carried out intensive operations along the Indo- Bangladesh border by conducting frisking and checking of vehicular movement along the border.
The alertness and swift actions during the Ops culminated into apprehension of 01 male and 08 female Bangladeshi nationals while they were en-route for marketing in the weekly market at Khanjoy under South West Khasi Hills Meghalaya. All the apprehended Bangladeshi national falls within the age bracket between 30-50 years and all are residents of Kaithakona under Sunamganj district of Bangladesh.
The Party also seized huge quantity vegetables along with other personal belongings from their possession. It is mentioned that Kaithakonais very close to the International Border. Due to non-existence of Indo-Bangladesh border fence at many places, at times Bangladeshi nationals illegally enter into Indian territory taking advantage of thick vegetation.
In this instant case these Bangladeshis had infiltrate into Indian territory through unfenced jungle area for attending the weekly market which was approximately 08 km via jungle and approximately 20 km via road. During preliminary questioning, they revealed that they had illegally crossed IB to visit Khanjoy weekly market.
Further, all apprehended persons were handed over to BGB on proper receipt along with all their belongings and items after getting assurance from BGB to take proper legal action against the entire apprehended person as per laws of the land for illegally crossing the IB.
