The Chief Justice of HCM today laid the foundation stone of the SJ School at Mawkasiang

Shillong, Nov 17: The Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya, Hon’ble Mr Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, today laid the foundation stone of the Shillong Juvenile School at Mawkasiang , New Shillong.

The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice S R Sen, in-charge Juvenile Justice Committee, Meghalaya, Additional Secretary, Social Welfare, Shri. H Marwein, Commissioner and  Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Mr. T Dkhar, Director Social Welfare, Mr. E Kharmalki, Senior Advocate, senior officials of the High Court of Meghalaya and inmates of Juvenile Home.

The area for the school building spread over 25,000 sq.ft of land, the construction cost of the Juvenile School is estimated at Rs. 5 crores approximately. The School will have classes from Class 1 to Class 10.

Mr. Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, in his speech, said that education is one of the primary rehabilitative services that must be provided to children staying in juvenile homes.

The school will help mainstreaming the children through observation, education and vocational training as incorporated in the Juvenile Justice Act, he said.  He said that with the proper support and care these children can return to society as bright future of the state and country.

He hoped that the school will cater not only to the educational needs of these young kids but also develop them into good human beings. Others who spoke on the occasion were Mr. Justice S R Sen and Shri E Kharmalki.
