The Chief Minister Dr Mukul address the students of Tirot Sing Memorial College

Shillong, November 04:The Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma addressed the students of the Tirot Sing Memorial College at Mairang at the closing ceremony of the College Week on Friday and encouraged the students to engage themselves in co-curricular activities so as to explore their respective potentialities.

The Chief Minister stressed on the importance of providing not only quality education to the youth of the state, but to also see as to how education can cater to the needs of the young minds in providing attractive spaces for providing job opportunities.

He also informed that the Government have restructured a new concept of Community College, where the community as a stakeholder will play the vital role in running of the institutions and the Government will only be acting as a facilitator and regulator to ensure the desired objective of the Community College is fructifying. ” We want to ensure that Meghalaya position itself as a state where you have educational institutions which are self sufficient and self reliant “said the Chief Minister.

Dr. Sangma also said that the educational sector of the state should be a brand in itself and attract students from various parts of the country, thereby paving the way for the future growth and prosperity of the state. Earlier the Principal of the college Dr. P. R. Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.

Others present at the event were MLA of Mairang Constituency Metbah Lyngdoh, Deputy Chairman,  State Planning Board Dr. Eureka F P Lyngdoh, the Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw, Pa’iem Phrestar Manik Syiemlieh and the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills Arunkumar Kembhavi.
