The Chief Minister Dr Mukul assured that Lad Sohbar Road will be sanction

Shillong, March 08: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma today assured the state Assembly that the revised estimate for the construction of the remaining portion of Lad Sohbar Road under his constituency would be completed immediately. Intervening while PWD Minister was making replying to the question raised by the Leader Opposition, Dr. Donkupar Roy, Dr. Sangma admitted that there was delay in completing the revised estimate of the remaining portion of the road and he would sort out the problem with the PWD Minister.

Raising the issue during Question Hour, Dr. Donkupar Roy informed the House that the road could not be completed even after a decade and the revised estimate for construction of the remaining portion of the road was delayed time and again. When Dr. Roy sought an explanation, as to why the revised estimate could not be completed, Dr. Sangma intervened to solve the matter.

Replying to another question, Dr. Sangma informed the House that the total number of companies in Meghalaya obligated with Corporate Social Responsibility as per Section of 135 of the Companies Act, 2014 is six.

Responding to the quarries by an Opposition Member, Jemino Mawthoh during Question Hour, Dr. Sangma said the benefits derived to the state from the various interventions under Corporate Social Responsibility during 2015-2015 was to the tune of 2.779 crore rupees.

To another question raised by an Opposition Member during Question Hour, Dr. Jemino Mawthoh, Urban Affairs Minister, Ronnie V. Lyngdoh told the House that 20 people who had violated the Solid Waste Management Rules of the Urban Affairs Department and were fined an amount ranging from 500 rupees to 5,000 rupees. He also told the House that the Solid Waste Management and Cleanliness and Cleanliness, 2016 was notified on the 9th of December,2016. To ensure the cleanliness of Shillong. In this regard, the Urban Affairs Department has given two colour coded bins to 31,674 households for segregation of waste and to dispose off the waste in collection vehicles to prevent dumping in open spaces.

The Minister said so far, 827 public awareness programmes have been held since 2012 to bring about awareness among the public on safe disposal of waste and segregation of waste. He said Litter bins have been place in important stretches of the roads. Warning signboards have been installed at strategic locations with security agency to monitor them. Lyngdoh also said that Show Cause Notices were issued to the Senior Sanitary Inspectors and Zonal In-charge for not adhering to the instruction to prevent indiscrimination dumping.

On the implementation of the National Population Register in Meghalaya, Meghalaya GAD Minister, H.D.R. Lyngdoh told the House that the National Population Register Biometric Enrollment in Meghalaya is around 10 per cent. Replying to the question posed by an Opposition Member belonging to Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), Ardent M. Basaiawmoit during Question Hour, Lyngdoh said the service of enrollment agencies were not extended beyond the 31st of December 2016 by the Registrar General and Census Commission of India and the matter was temporarily suspended. He added that the enrollment could be resumed soon after the appointment of new enrollment agency.

On the maintenance of Road at Umsning in Ri Bhoi District, Meghalalaya PWD Minister, Martin M. Danggo informed the House that M/s Jorabad Shillong Expressway Pvt Ltd was responsible for the maintenance of the stretch of road at Umsning along the National Highway. Replying to the question asked by an Opposition Member of United Democratic Party (UDP) during Question Hour, Danggo said the toll is being collected only for the complete stretch of 56. Km of the 61.80 Km of the 4-lane road except for the 5.4 Km Umsning Bypass.
