The Chief Minister Dr Mukul inaugurates Rongjeng administrative unit at Rongjeng

Williamnagar, November 14: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul M Sangma inaugurated the Administrative Unit at Rongjeng in the presence of School Education and  Literacy Minister, Deborah C Marak, Rongjeng MLA, Sengnam M Marak, Bajengdoba MLA, Brigady N Marak, Secretary, Home (Police) Department, S Kharlyngdoh and East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Kumar, on 14 November.

Inaugurating the administrative unit, Dr. Sangma said that bringing development to the state as a whole is a continuous process and assured that the needs of the people of the region will be taken care of. On the day, the Chief Minister congratulated the people of the region and asked them not to get discouraged as the present government has solution to every problem.

Highlighting the developmental projects sanctioned by the present Govt. to this particular region, he informed the gathering that 272 Km. Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura road had been a major achievement. Another such achievement of the Govt. is Rs. 210 crores Rongjeng-Mangsang-Adokgre road the foundation stone for which had already been laid recently and he said that this road will be one of the best roads in the state.

Speaking about the vacant posts in various Govt. departments, the Chief Minister said that there are technical problems which will soon be looked into. The Govt. is taking care of the disparities in developmental process. The Govt. is moving ahead in implementing various schemes and projects and the needs of the people are being taken care of. Transforming the state is not a matter of one day and therefore there should be planning which requires time.

Speaking at length about developmental projects in Garo Hills, Dr. Sangma said that Babadam area in West Garo Hills will no longer be backward as 127 B National Highway will soon be passing through the area.

This year the Govt. had sanctioned Rs.1400 crores for the MGNREGS whereas the amount sanctioned last year was only Rs. 900 crores, the Chief Minister informed. He also said that the highest budget allocation had been accorded to education sector in order to achieve the goal. The Chief Minister further said that he will soon be laying the foundation stone for the community college at Rongjeng.

The School Education and Literacy Minister, Deborah C Marak, said that the inauguration of Rongjeng administrative unit is a gift by the MUA-II Govt. to the people of the region under the leadership of Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul M Sangma.

Speaking on the occasion, local MLA, Sengnam M Marak said that the inauguration of Rongjeng administrative unit had been the result of ceaseless efforts of the Chief Minister. He also said that the Chief Minister had sanctioned Rs. 3 crores road project from Rongchek A∙kong to Cheran and expressed gratitude for his initiatives for uplifting the region.

The others who spoke on the occasion included Bajengdoba MLA, Brigady N Marak and Auline D Sangma, Secretary of the Rongjeng Citizens’ Forum.

On the day, Secretary, Home (Police) Department, S Kharlyngdoh, read out the Govt. notification and handed over the Govt. approval of the Rongjeng Administrative Unit to the EAC in-charge and the BDO Rongjeng, Diana G Sangma.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills, Ram Kumar, in his welcome address lauded the Chief Minister for taking initiatives for creating this administrative unit which will bring the administration closer to the people.

Earlier on the day, the Chief Minister flagged off the bus donated by the Govt. to Williamnagar Govt. College which had been purchased for Rs. 22,43,365.

On the day, all the officials of the Govt. departments of East Garo Hills district attended the inaugural function and the vote of thanks was proposed by the BDO, Rongjeng, DG Sangma, MCS.
