Shillong, November 04: The Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma laid the foundation stone for “the Eco Resort at Nongkhlaw” on 3rd November 2017 at the “The Krem Tirot Festival 2017” at Madan Bir, Nongkhlaw in the presence of Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism Shri Kennedy C Khyriem and MLA of Mairang Constituency Shri Metbah Lyngdoh.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma said that Nongkhlaw with its historical significance has a huge potential of positioning itself as a unique exclusive destination for promoting Culture Tourism. He said tourism as a sector has to be driven by all the stakeholders and the Government has to play the role of a facilitator.
The Chief Minister also informed that a project called the Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Centre at Nongkhlaw has already been sanctioned by the Government, however the process of tendering and work allotment is yet to be done.
“Opportunity for all through sustainable tourism is the agenda of Government” he said. Dr Sangma also stated that our traditional way of life and vibrant culture are strengths which can add value to various products in the tourism sector and is looking forward to see that Nongkhlaw acts as a catalysed in promoting Meghalaya as one of the most favoured destinations.
The Syiem of Hima Nongklaw, Pa’iem Phrestar Manik Syiemlieh also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister during the occasion.
