The CPS Patharkandi students top in State Level Science Exhibition 2018 held at Guwahati

Guwahati,February 2: Two students from Central Public School, Patharkandi topped in the State Level Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition 2018 in the category of “Transport and Communication”. The students who won the First Position were: Mohibul Islam and Jabed Akhtar, both of them studying in class IX. The competition was organized and conducted by SCERT in collaboration with NCERT New Delhi. It was held at Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati from 29 to 31 January 2018.

The students presented a science model on how to prevent road accidents in hilly region. They were accompanied by their guide teachers to ERD Foundation Guwahati yesterday. There they were felicitated and were presentd tokens of appreciation by Mahbubul Hoque, Charman of ERDF. It could be mentioned that Central Public School Patharkandi is a branch of ERDF. The students will be participating in the National Level Competition.

The State Level Exhibition was meant for school children of class VI to XII where schoolchildren between had to showcase their ideas. It is the 29th edition of the exhibition with sustainable development as the main theme. “It is a part of the government endeavour to build up the scientific temper among schoolchildren.

Altogether 160 schoolchildren from different districts of Assam exhibited 80 scientific models on innovations for sustainable development. Among the participants, around 70 per cent came from rural areas of the State. It is a good sign. We have carried out school-level sensitisation programmes on sustainable development across the state and had got good response,” said Joint Director of SCERT, Jayanta Sarma.
