Shillong, June 01: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District Mr P S Dkhar today convince the meeting along with the Superintendent of Police, where attended by the headman from different localities of Shillong city.
Speaking to the media after the meeting the Deputy Commissioner said that, the whole objective of convening the meeting was deliberates how to bring back normalcy here in the Shillong city. During the deliberations, they have all given the assurance that from their part they would try their best to see that they can bring back normalcy in the respective areas.
The Deputy Commissioner said that we would like to see by tomorrow we should be able to lift the curfew. We should be able to open the market so that normal life would come back as usual. With the participation of the public representatives, stakeholders and community, we would be able to bring back normalcy to the city.
When asked on the suggestion made by the stakeholders to solve the problem, he said that majority was of the view that the Punjabi Line is a slum area and many kind of incident like this had happen in the past.
It would be good if the Government take a call on this. The place made open for other purposes. “I assured them that I would convey this to the Government. Now I will leave to the Government to take a call on this issue.
When asked that this is a long pending demand of vacating the Punjabi Line to another place, he said that his job is to convey the message to the Government on the aspirations of the people. “It is the job of the Government to take a call on this,” Deputy Commissioner said.
