The Dept of Tourism and Travel Management, MLCU celebrated World Tourism Day

Shillong September 27: The Department of Tourism and Travel Management,  Martin Luther Christian University today celebrated World Tourism Day along with the rest of the world by organising an Indigenous Food Festival in the University’s premises under the global theme of ‘Sustainable Tourism: a Tool for Development’.

The chief guest during the inaugural function was the former Home Minister,  Government of Meghalaya and the former Vice Chancellor of MLCU, Mr RG Lyngdoh.  Also present on the occasion was the Registrar of the University Dr Marina B Marwein,  Director HR Mr Albert Lyngdoh,  Faculty, and students of the department.

Speaking at the inaugural Mr Lyngdoh spoke at length about the importance of sustainable tourism is the only way to promote but also preserve the traditional and cultural aspects of  a community.

He added that MLCU is the best  platform for the students to learn to become not future job seekers but actual job creators in the field of Tourism.  He also congratulated the department for its continuos effort to create awareness about sustainable tourism in the region through their various community Outreach programmes.

Khasi Traditional songs and an Arunachali Dance was also performed by the students and some faculty of the Department.

The food fest displayed traditional food from states like Nagaland,  Assam and also Meghalaya.  Different Snacks from different tribes of the North East were also sold at the food fest.
