The District Admt should pay the compensation five lakh each to Agnes-Amita: Ampareen

Shillong, Nov 26: The House Committee on Women Empowerment (HCWE) today has summon the Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of East Jiantia Hills District to get detail information on the incident at Sohshireh where two social activist Smt Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma were bitten up miserably miscreants.

Speaking to the media after the meeting with the head of the East Jiantia Hlills District, the Chairperson of the HCWE, Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh said that, the committee has directed the District administration to pay the compensation to the victims Smti Agnes and Smti Amita five lakh each within seven days.

The HCWE asked the District administration to sent the message to the state government that, an independent inquiry should be constituted, the inquiry committee constituted by the Deputy Commissioner to inquired is only at the level of the Additional District Magistrate is not sufficient.

Dr Ampareen inform that the date given to the inquiry committee to submit the report with 15 days time has lapse, the DC has inform the committee that the time has been extended for the ADM to inquired on the incident at  Shohshrieh to 30th November 2018.

From the reply of the head of the district administration of East Jiantia Hills, so far only six people have been arrested and two were pickup for interrogation, which the committee term that there is lapses in tackling the issued to arrest the culprit who involved in the crime. The ADM who investigate the incident did not turn out before the committee today.

Mr HM Shangpliang member of the HCWE, said that the District Administration has only sanction Rs. 12700/- rupees each only   to the victims, as compensation, that too from the Disaster management fund. The committee will place preliminary report tomorrow in the floor of the House to let all the members know about the incident.

Mr Meralborn Syiem, one of the members of the Committee added that the genesis of the incident is due to illegal transportation of coal, he term it as a pre-plan attacked. Mr Lazarus Sangma members of the Committee inform that they have given seven days time to the District Adminstration to pay that five lakh each to the victims’.

The Chairperson Dr Ampareen while answering to queries from the media, said that irrespective of political affiliation who are involved in this crimes should be book and put up behind bar. The HCWE will again summon the head of the District on the issued.
