The DM, Ri Bhoi District, has imposed Section 144 CrPC prohibiting the use of loudspeakers

Shillong, February 03:The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh has imposed Section 144 CrPC prohibiting  the use of loudspeakers within the District for election campaign by  political parties, candidates, their workers and supporters whether fitted on vehicles or in the static position used for public meeting for electioneering purposes beyond the restricted hours from 6:00 A.M to 10:00 P.M  and all loudspeakers users for election campaign must obtain permission from the Returning Officer of the constituency and local police authorities.

Meanwhile it is also notified that all political parties, Candidates and any other persons using of loudspeakers on moving vehicle shall intimate the Registration Identification number of those vehicles to the authorities granting permission for using of loudspeakers and no loudspeakers shall be permitted to be used during the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll.

This has been done in view that indiscriminate and unfettered use of loudspeakers at odd hours and at odd places at very high volumes might cause great disturbance to the peace and tranquility and causing annoyance to the general public, the sick and the student community.
