The English dept  of NEHU-NIT will organised “Under the Pine Tree Theatre” Festival

Shillong, Dec 11: The Department of English NEHU and NIT Meghalaya in association with NSD, New Delhi are co-organizing the first ever NEHU andNIT will organised jointly “Under the Pine Tree Theatre Festival”  on the 13th, 14th and 15th of December, 2018 at the NEHU Old Guest House.

In the festival three major theatre groups from Rourkela, Mumbai and New Delhi will be performing their plays based on the literary works of O. Henry, Saadat Hasan Manto and Premchand. On the 13th of December, 2018, the play Bees Saal Baad will be performed by the Newquest Repertory from Rourkela, Odisha, directed by CSNA Awardee Nalini Nihar Nayak which is an adaptation of O. Henry’s famous short story after 20 years.

On the 14th of December, 2018, the play Manto Ki Mozel will be performed by the group Purvabhyas of Mumbai, directed by film and theatre director Navin Agarwal. Well-known TV and Theatre actress, Prairna Agarwal from Mumbai will be playing the lead-role of Mozel, one of the most famous and bold characters of Manto. On the 15th of December, 2018, the play Woh Kagaz Ki Kashti, Woh Barish Ka Paani will be performed by the theatre group Mukha Mukham Manch from New Delhi, directed by NSD graduate Sundar Lal Chhabra.

The play is a children’s play based on the two stories, Chori and Badebhaisahab by Munshi Premchand. All the plays will be in Hindi and the show timings are 3:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. Entry to the shows are free, informed the festival coordinator Prof. Jyotirmoy Prodhani, Dept. of English, NEHU, Shillong.
