The FKS urged Meghalaya Governor for fund allocation to Traditional Chief of Meghalaya

Shillong, March 10: The Federation of Khasi State today submit a memorandum to Mr . Tathagata Roy, Governor Meghalaya by Mr John F Kharshiing, Chairman, Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya and Adviser and Spokesperson, Federation of Khasi States.

In the memorandum the FKS, request the governor of Meghalaya for annual allocation of budgetary support for IT tech-experts and IT equipments for installation in the office of the Chiefs   of the 54 Hima and Elaka in Khasi Hills, 20 Elakas in Jaintia Hills and in the office of the Council of Nokmas in Garo Hills there are 1400 Nokmas in Garo Hills so as to enhance transparency, delivery and governance structure,

Its need for periodic updates and information for transparent administration in  the such as list of villages under each Hima, Syiemship, Lyndohship, Sirdarship and Elaka and Raid for effective communication especially relating to grassroots governance including issues of public interest by the IT Department of the KHADC, the District Council Affairs Department, and the IT Department of the State Government.

Its need for a special time bound commission under sub-paragraph 1 of paragraph 14 of the Sixth Schedule to examine the delay in the codification of all the 54 Hima and Elaka in Khasi Hills 20 Elakas in Jaintia Hills and  1400 Nokmas in Garo Hills pending since many decades which has affected the effective functioning of the Administration and has not progressed satisfactorily

After hearing the important issues arising out of the memorandum, Hon’ble Governor Meghalaya, assured that he would seek for a report from the District Council Affairs Department of the State and would take a decision on receiving a report on the memorandum.
