Four NGOs who met Dy Chief Minister does not want the HLC to become just a tactic to buy time

Shillong, June  11: A delegation comprising of four NGOs today met the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya Prestone Tynsong who is also the Chairman of the High Level Committee (HLC) demanding the relocation of people residing at Sweepers’ Lane at the earliest.

The four NGOs included the Khasi Student Union (KSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) and Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF).

Speaking to reporters after meeting the Dy. CM, KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar said that this is a sickness which has lasted for many years and there is a need to remove this sickness and if it’s not being done at the earliest then there might be more problem which will plague the city because of this issue.”

He further said the High Level Committee should take up this issue of relocating the residents residing at Them Metor seriously. He said if we look back the government concerning various issues used to constitute such committees but these committees have failed to deliver on a number of issues.

He said that the four NGOs does not want the HLC to become just a tactic of the government to buy time but the government should instead take this issue seriously. The four NGOs have also informed that they will continue to keep tabs on the status and progress of the HLC.

When asked, he informed that the Chairman of the HLC was unable to give a time frame on the relocation of the residents of Them Iew Mawlong to the delegation.

He further said if the promises made by the government are not in line with the desire of the people then the four NGOs will have to take their own course of action to pressure the government to immediately address this issue.

The KSU president also said that the Sikh United Organization or other from outside the state should interfere on the issues concerning the state.
