The Govt in its endeavour to ensure equitable development of all region in the state : Conrad

Nongstoin, July 10: The Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today inaugurated the newly constructed building of Nongstoin College, funded by the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and Ministry of DoNER, Govt of India in presence of local MLA Macmilan Byrsat.

Inaugurating the college building, the Chief Minister reiterated Government’s commitment to improve the education scenario of the State. He also lauded the college for its contribution in imparting higher education since its inception from 1978.

An estimated 4.5 cr was sanctioned by RUSA and DoNER for new construction which included — academic block, boys hostel, library and archive, new classrooms and recreation rooms for the students. Apart from the new building the funds were utilised for development of the college campus and improvement of the college auditorium.

“Education is an important priority for the Government, the Education Policy is an initiative to address the challenges as well as enhance better infrastructure and facilities. There are several constraints in the education sector, however, we have embarked on a mission to strategise measures to resolve the problems of the teachers, who are the backbone for our society,” the Chief Minister said.

He informed that the Government is working out modalities to increase sanctioned post in different colleges of the State and Nongstoin College will also be included in the list.

He informed the gathering that the Government in its endeavour to ensure equitable development of all region has envisioned to give special attention and thrust to districts, which are lagging behind.

“Development has mostly been city and town centric in the past, however, we are now contemplating to put our focus to ensure that villages are development with basic amenities and infrastructure created for the overall growth of the State,” he added.

He said that the government has launched series of intervention to improve livelihood  and income generating opportunities for the accelerated growth of the rural economy.  “If we are able to enhance livelihood in our villages, we will see a significant improvement in our economy, as the growth of the State lies largely on the empowerment of our villages,” he added.

During his visit to Nongstoin, he also held review meeting with officials of the PHE and PWD department and took stock of the implementation of various schemes and projects in the district.
