The Govt is seeking expert opinion before recognizing Rev Thomas Jones, father of Khasi Alphabet

Shillong, March 17: Art and Culture Minister Mr Ronnie V Lyngdoh in his reply to the question asked by the MLA from Rambrai Mr Phlastingwell Pangniang, has the government recognized Rev Thomas Jones as father of the Khasi Alphabet, the minister said that the government is seeking opinion expert from the literature.

The Government is yet to received the view from the expert, the government will have to examined the issue properly to avoid any controversial issued in the future once the government taken the decision , from the government is still awaiting the views from the expert.

The MLA from Mawshynrut Mr Witting Mawsor  said that the Khasi Alphabet was given to the Khasi people by Rev Thomas Jones 175 years before, he also mention about Rev William Carry who tried to write khasi language in Bengoli script, Rev Alexander Berth also tried but he is using Bengoli script and letter then Rev Thomas Jones write the Khasi Aplhabet by using Roman Script.
