Shillong, May 15: The Garo Student Union (GSU) opposed to the interview calle d by the North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) to be conducted in Guwahati, the student body from Garo Hills has the apprehensions about the possibility of corruptive and manipulative practices ensured to bypass the chances of the locals of Meghalaya. There are trepidations that the move is calculated to bypass the Job Reservation Policy of the state, said the president of the GSU Mr Tengsak G. Momin in the press statement issued today.
The circular passed by the Joint Registrar, NEHU on the 11th of May’2018 for a walk in interview on 02rd June 2018 at NEHU Guest House, Borjhar, VIP road, Guahati looks suspect because it entails that NEHU has no suitable infrastructure to hold an interview at NEHU. We know NEHU Campus, Shillong and NEHU Campus, Tura has the infrastructure to hold a walk in interview.
Last time, NEHU conducted an interview at Guahati; a non-local was chosen to fill up the post of an engineer. In Garo Hills, NEHU Campus, Tura during the tenure of Prof. Kare brought from his own home townalleged the GSU. There are many indigenous peoples in Meghalaya who were well qualified for posts mentioned above.
The post advertised at present is for a Residential Doctor, Staff Nurse and System Analyst. There are many well qualified, educated but unemployed youths in Meghalaya and just like the rest of the country Meghalaya is facing the unemployment problem of the youths. There are more than 40,000 unemployed youths in Meghalaya. Why is this chance for employment for the people of Meghalaya being taken away? This is unacceptable which also likens the educated and qualified of Meghalaya to be unqualified for NEHU.
The GSU demands that the Walk in interview must be conducted in Meghalaya as is wont. Why is there a need by NEHU to expend unnecessary expenses by conducting it in a NEHU Guest House in Guahati when it is perfectly alright to do so in Meghalaya? If NEHU Shillong Campus does not have the room to conduct walk in interview there are large enough rooms in Nehu Tura Campus,the point being the exam must be conducted in Meghalaya.
Is the move to conduct walk in interview in Guahati to discourage potential local candidates so as to remove the local advantage. What is the intended logic behind it or do they think we would disturb the interview, we won’t, and we want the interview conducted in Meghalaya.
We oppose the venue of the walk in interview and demand that the interview be conducted in Meghalaya and that the Job Reservation Policy be not violated and help in a way to address the issue of unemployment problem in Meghalaya.
The GSU also request the Chief Minister of Meghalaya to help on the issue. The GSU also congratulate Mr. Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, his cabinet and other political parties for their bold stand on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and for their foresight.
