The JSU alert Meghalaya Govt that Bangladesh constructing RCC structure at Zero line at Dawki

Shillong, June 20: The JSU-WJC  have submitted a letter to Shri Lahkmen Rymbui, Minister Incharge Home & Border Areas Development to alert the Government against the RCC structure setup by the Border Gaurds of Bangladesh(BGB) near the Zero line of India – Bangladesh Border and also of missing Sub Pillar of BP No.1273 which is located at the Umngot River near the BSF camp site at Dawki.

The JSU-WJC had recieved information that the structure was meant for patrol camp by the BGB which was planned to have facilities such as flood lights.

The JSU-WJC writes “We are extremely concerned as to how the BSF with it’s camp present at close proximity to this pillar and structure are just mute spectator and are not able to prevent the above. We also demand that the BSF should clarify immediately on their failure to act.” .

On their recent visit to the site this month the union had stated that a Sub Pillar of BP No.1273 near the site of the construction is reported to be missing and also due to rampant removal of stones and rocks near the river bank the Football ground was seen to be excessively eroded and is at risk of disappearing.

The JSU-WJC led by President Eddy Kery Pohtam and General Secretary Kerrydiam Lamin had visited Assistant Commander of BOP Dawki for clarification on the above in which he replied that the same had been taken up by to the concern authorities and all construction works of the RCC structure has been halted.

The JSU WJC also urged the Minister to take necessary and timely action against this encroachment by Bangladesh and also to resolve the pending border issue to properly demarcate the Indo-Bangladesh border line with the erection of new and correctly placed pillars.
