The killer of the Journalist Smti Gauri should be brought to book: Mr Conrad

Shillong, September 08: Mr Conrad K Sangma MP from Tura said, he was deeply concerned by the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru. Any violent crime against anyone is a matter of concern for all of us. Civilized societies do not condone or justify crimes such as murder.

Apart from being a citizen, Lankesh was also a bold and outspoken journalist and activist. It is likely that her killing was related to her work. This is therefore also an attack on the media and on activism.

A free press is one of the pillars of a democratic society. Such attacks cannot be allowed to go un punished. He call upon the Karnataka government to ensure speedy justice in this case, and in previous cases of a similar nature in past years. The guilty must be found and brought to book.

Incidents of this nature have international ramifications and hurt India’s image in the world. He urged on the Centre to look into the matter as well. Justice must not only be done, but be seen to be done, for the sake of Lankesh, Bengaluru, and India.
