Shillong, March 13: The women organisation the Khun Khynthei Hynniewtrep Association (KKHA), while condemning the recent cases of rape and murder by unknown perpetrators in the state, demanded ‘life imprisonment’ for persons involved in such heinous crimes against women, Said Mr Goldy Warjri.

In protest against the increasing crimes against women in the state, the KKHA will also be organizing a Peace Rally on March 18, starting from Students field, Jaiaw at 11AM followed by pinning of black flag and conclude with a candle light ceremony and signature campaign at Police Bazaar in the evening.
Addressing reporters on Monday, Warjri said, “The government should make strong laws so that such perpetrators would get the life sentenced and no bail will be afforded to them. It’s futile for the government to hand out compensation to the family of rape and murdered victims when the life of an individual is no more.”
He observed that the series of rape and murder of young girls and women has instilled fear in the minds of the female populace in the city and across the state.In this regard, he said, “I condemn the state government, because despite continuous incidents of rape and murder in the state the government has yet to take up any strong steps or action to stomp the menaces from the state of Meghalaya once and for all.
Warjri informed that the purpose of the Peace Rally is to oppose the increasing crimes against the female populace of the state.He further urged political leaders, legislators, NGOs including the general public to come out and participate in the Rally. When asked, Warjri said, “Yes we support the demand made by the NCP in the Assembly that the judicial system of the country should be emended.
