Shillong, June 25: The Kahsi Students Union of the three districts, South West Khasi Hills District, West KHasi Hills District and Ri Bhoi District today they have taken clear stand that they support the demand for Garoland by the Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC), but they will not allowed even an inch of the Khasi areas to include in the Garoland.
Speaking to the media at the KSU office today the president of the KSU from South West Khasi Hills District Mr Forwoardman Nongrem, said that the KSU support the demand for Garoland by various organization from Garo Hills, but they will not allowed the areas from Khasi Hills to be included in the Garoland, this is the message they want to sent to the GHSMC.
The demand for Garoland officially was submitted in the year 1999 to the then Prime Minister of India Mr Atal Behri Vajpayee from Garo Hills, only in 2006 when the ANVC after the cease fire agreement they have again submitted their demand for separate Garoland along with the proposed map, where others organization including the GHSMC take up with the Union Government.
The KSU said that as per the proposed map by the ANVC and was taken up by the GHSMC, in this map that is available with the KSU, more than 200 villages from the Khasi areas were include in the proposed Garoland which the KSU will not accept it at any cost.
The areas that was included in the map submitted by the ANVC to the Union Government it stretched from Borsora of South West Khasi Hills District to Riangdo of West Khasi Hills District up to Khanapara of Ri Bhoi District. The KSU demand from the state government and the KHADC to clarify what is the stand of the Government on this demand for Garoland, state government should come out with the clear statement.
The President of the KSU West Khasi Hills District, Mr John Nongsiang and the KSU president of North Khasi Hills Mr F K Kharkamni, echo to the same stand made from the president of South West Khasi Hills District that the KSU whole heartedly support for the demand of Garoland but in the course of their demand should not touched the khasi territory.
