KSUP written to CS of Meghalaya on the death of pregnant staff nurse due to COVID-19

Shillong, May 31: The whatapp group Ka Sur U Paidbah, today written to the Chief Secretary Government of Meghalaya, Shillong on the sad demised of one pregnant staff nurse of Ganesh Das Hospital Shillong.

In the letter sent to the Chief Secretary the KSUP has great concern for the welfare of the frontline fighting Covid in the state and the general public at large, they would like to express a deep concern over the non-adherence of the Ganesh Das Hospital Authority to the notification issued by the Government of Meghalaya vide No. Per.62/2020/53 dated 17th May 2021 which have caused the death of one Staff nurse deployed at the said hospital.

In the letter KSUP said that it has been reported through the social media wherein the next of kin of one 6 months pregnant start nurse was denied maternity leave when applied for and was forced to continue working in violation of Govt orders, and on the 30th May 2021 she lost her life.

There are questions arising from the incident as to, How can hospital management defy the Government Notification and put at stake and high risk the life of a pregnant employee and her 6 month baby.

Such incidents are very unfortunate and therefore we urged upon the Government and the Health department to kindly ensure that various departments strictly follow guidelines issued from time to time so as to enable to avoid such incidents in the future.
