Maligaon, Jan 22: On 19.01.2019, RPF (Railway Protection Force) of Lumding Division has taken a significant step towards enhancing the security of women in the NE region. A dedicated RPF Women Squad named as ‘JOYMATI BAHINI’, comprising women sub-inspector and constables of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) was officially launched by Shri B.B. Mishra, Inspector General cum Principal Chief Security Commissioner of N.F. Railway at Kamkhaya Railway Station. It was named after the courageous princess, Joymati to have a constant motivating factor to be courageous, dedicated and perseverant at all times in the service to society.
The main aim of the JOYMATI BAHINI is to strengthen women security around Guwahati region within railway premises and trains. The members of the ‘JOYMATI BAHINI’ started their duty by interacting with women passengers at the Guwahati & Kamkhya Railway station to provide and ensure foolproof security arrangements for women & children. Passengers are also being told to dial 182 immediately in case of any emergency on running trains or platforms. Their main focus area is to enhance women security by ensuring sanctity of reserved compartments, women compartments.
During the launching of JOYMATI BAHINI by Inspector General/NFR, Sr. Divisional Security Commissioner of RPF Shri Raghuveer Chooka also briefed everyone about the performance of RPF during the year 2018 in which at least 301 distressed women & child were provided assistance by the RPF team over the Lumding division. A large number of women rail commuters, who had gone astray, were reunited with their families and hundreds of minor children rescued from different stations. In addition 124 male persons were prosecuted against entering into the train coaches or other place reserved for females. From crime prospective this year in Lumding division, detection percentage has been increased from 46% to 75 % as compared to last year 2017. The all Women RPF Squad would definitely enhance the perception of women security and would also be more approachable by women in need in railway premises.
