The NFR recovers more than Rs. 5 crores from ticketless travellers during July 2018

Maligaon, August 16: By conducting a relentless drive against ticketless travelling in Mail Express and Passenger trains during the month of July, 74432 ticketless travellers have been detected by N.F. Railway.

This is 6.25 % higher than the corresponding figure of 70057 persons detected during July last year.  An amount of Rs. 5.33 crores was also realized from these without ticket or irregular ticket passengers which is about 9.5 % higher than the corresponding figure of Rs. 4.84 crores collected during July last year.

It is to be mentioned that during the period from April to July this year, as many as 280443 passengers were detected to be travelling with irregular ticket or without ticket in trains. This is about 14% more than the corresponding period of last year. The amount realized during this period is Rs. 19.24 crs which is about 22.00% more than last year.

N.F. Railway officials have been conducting regular surprise ticket checking drive in Mail  Express and passenger Trains. As per section 137, of the Indian Railway Act of 1989, travelling without ticket, improper ticket or un-booked luggage in an offence punishable by imprisonment or fine or both.

To discourage ticketless travelling, Northeast Frontier Railway has put systems in place whereby surprise ticket checking drive is conducted by Flying Ticket Checking Squads of Divisions as well as HQ. Fortress checks are also conducted in stations. For this officers are nominated at HQ and Divisional levels from different department who are accompanied by security personal from Railway Protection Force and Govt. Railway Police.
