The Press Council of India invites claims for 14th Term Reconstitution

Shillong, March 12: The Press Council of India is a statutory quasi-judicial authority constituted by an Act, that is, the Press Council Act, 1978 with the mandate for preserving the freedom of the press and maintaining and improving standard of press in India.

In pursuance to section 5(1) of the said Act, composition of the Council consists of a Chairman and 28 other members and as per section 6(1) of the Act, the Chairman and other members shall hold office for a period of three years. The term of present Council is to expire on 29.5.2021. Accordingly, the Council is to be reconstituted for its 14th term.

The Chairman of the Council in terms of sub section 4 of section 5 of the said Act and Press Council (Procedure for Notification of Associations of Persons) Rules, 2021, invite the claims from the eligible Associations of Persons all over the country for the purpose of notification in the Official Gazette.

The claims in the sealed envelope shall reach the Chairman, Press Council of India on or before 6th April, 2021. All rules, regulations, eligibility criteria, filing of validating documents and FAQs can be accessed at the website of the Council https://www.presscouncil.nic.in/.
