The Railway Protection Force of NFR recovered ganja worth more than Rs. 21 lakh

Maligaon, Jan 22: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of N. F. Railway recovered ganja worth Rs. 21.30 lakh during last few days. The contrabands were recovered during regular checks in trains and stations over N. F. Railway.

Acting on information on 20th January, 2022 officers and staff of RPF Post, New Jalpaiguri and officials of Commercial Department under the supervision of A.G. Faruque, Assistant Security Commissioner (ASC) of New Jalpaiguri conducted a joint checking at Parcel Office, New Jalpaiguri.

During checking, they recovered two parcel packages which had been booked from New Jalpaiguri to Bhatinda by declaring the consignment as cosmetic items by the consignor. On opening the two packages, 42 packets ganja weighing about 87 kgs worth about Rs. 8.70 lakh were found.

The recovered ganja packets were seized at spot in presence of ASC/New Jalpaiguri and other witnesses. In this regard, a complaint has been lodged to IC/GRPS/New Jalpaiguri against the consignor. Later, the seized ganja and relevant documents were handed over to IC/GRP/New Jalpaiguri for further necessary action.

In an incident on 19th January, 2022 RPF of Dimapur conducted checking at Dimapur railway station and recovered 07 packets ganja weighing 9.5 kgs valued about Rs. 95 thousand. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to Custom Department, Dimapur for disposal.

In another incident on 18th January, 2022 RPF of Guwahati, jointly with GRP/Guwahati staff conducted check in train No. 20501 DN (Agartala – New Delhi Tejas Express) at Guwahati railway station.

During checking, total 25 packets ganja, weighing about 55 kgs was found in 02 unclaimed trolley bags and 01 backpack. Later, the recovered/seized ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Guwahati for disposal. Value of the seized ganja is Rs. 5.5 lakh (approx).

Again, on 18th January, 2022, RPF of Agartala recovered 30 kgs unclaimed ganja worth Rs. 3 lakh at Agartala station. RPF of Agartala, on 17th January, 2022 while escorting the train No. 20501 DN (Tejas Express), recovered 20 kgs unclaimed ganja worth Rs. 2 lakh at Badarpur station.

On 16th January, 2022 RPF of Agartala while conducting checking at Agartala railway station recovered 03 packets ganja, weighing about 05 kgs, worth about Rs. 50 thousand.

On 15th January, 2022, RPF team of Agartala recovered 6.5 kgs unclaimed ganja, worth Rs. 65 thousand while conducting checking in train No. 12504 DN (Agartala – Bangalore Cant Humsafar Express) at Agartala railway station. Later, recovered ganjas were handed over to OC/GRP of concerned stations for further necessary action.
