The SDRF Evacuates Flood Hit Locals of Phulbari in West Garo Hills District

Shillong, July 17: A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been working tirelessly since 13th July, to evacuate local residents at the flood hit areas of Phulbari in West Garo Hills. Heavy and continuous rains since last week have caused the water levels of the Brahmaputra-Jinjiram River to rise well above the danger level.

Meghalaya’ SDRF teams have been on the alert ever since the weather warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).

Taking note of the weather warning, the Director General, Civil Defence and Home Guards, Meghalaya had activated and directed the SDRF team to be stationed at the flood prone areas of Phulbari and Mahendraganj since last week.  One SDRF team has also been stationed at Tura for any emergency.

Rescue operations by the SDRF are being supervised by MM Sangma, Deputy Controller, Civil Defence, Tura. (PRO- CD&HG)
